Every buying guide on Alex’s Best Picks follows the same 4-step process.
1. Research (30+ candidates per category)
We start with the broadest possible list. For a guide on inflatable pools, that means pulling every Amazon Best Seller in the category, scanning Reviewed.com and Wirecutter for recent picks, and reading through 50+ Reddit threads in r/parenting, r/daddit, and r/Mommit for real owner complaints.
2. Filter (we kill 80% of candidates)
A product has to clear three filters before it makes the shortlist:
- Verified availability. The ASIN must be live on Amazon as of the publish date. We’ve seen guides elsewhere recommend products that were discontinued months earlier — not here.
- Real-world durability signal. Anything with a pattern of “broke in 2 weeks” complaints gets cut, even if it has 4.5 stars overall.
- Fit with real use cases. We assign every pick a role (“Best Budget,” “Best for Small Kids”) rather than stacking seven almost-identical products.
3. Rank (7 picks, each earns its slot)
Seven isn’t an arbitrary number. It’s enough to cover budget-to-premium range and multiple use cases without drowning you in choices. Each pick gets a “Best for:” label so you can skip to the one that matches your situation.
4. Verify (every link, every spec)
Before publish, we verify every Amazon link resolves, every spec matches the current listing, and every affiliate URL carries the correct tag. When a product gets discontinued or a better option launches, we update the guide. Articles are refreshed quarterly.
What we don’t do
- We don’t accept free products in exchange for reviews.
- We don’t run sponsored posts dressed up as reviews.
- We don’t recommend products solely because they pay a higher affiliate commission.
- We don’t use AI to mass-generate reviews (human editorial review on every article).
Affiliate relationship
Alex’s Best Picks participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click an Amazon link on this site and buy, we earn a small commission at no cost to you. That’s how we pay for the research time. It never changes which products make the list.
